The windshield in your vehicle is large for a reason. The rear view mirror is small for a reason. The reason is that it is more important to look forward to see where you are going – only look back to keep driving conditions in perspective.
This can, also, apply to life. You are not your past mistakes. You went through those difficult things for a reason. Looking back periodically can help you not make the same mistakes but just as you can’t drive you car by looking backward, you have to look forward and keep moving.
Don’t allow others to keep reminding you of your past, either. If someone brings up a past mistake, you can always offer, “I have learned so much from those mistakes and I’m looking ahead to my bright future.” It is difficult sometimes to stay strong and live this, but if you keep moving forward, you will grow into the person that God meant for you to be. He can make sweet Lemon aide out of our lemons.
